Recently, I’ve been painting in a more stylized way. It’s an entirely different way to approach the subject! Rather than painting the entire canvas at the same time, putting a stroke here and there and moving all around the canvas, I instead approach it first as a figure drawing (always from a live model). I then go from there, taking cues from the background. The wonderful thing about art is that you can approach it any way that you want, putting in or taking out anything you feel like! In my mind, it just has to work! I’m not necessarily interested in a likeness to the model…it’s really about what feelings are elicited in me.
